red fronted macaw


The red fronted macaws are very small and declining population. They are a medium size, grow to 55-60 cm, tricoloured macaw. They are largely bright green, orange-red forehead to mild crown small auricular patch. Large shoulder patch and mottlled thigh coloration as crown. Pale blue primaries. narrow ring of pale pinkish bare skin around eye. Has a large black beak. They are found on the east andean slope of southern central bolivia from cochabamba and west santa cruz. There are less than 500 breeding pairs. The egg laying has been up to 3 eggs annually. The threats it has is in the dry andean forest. They eat seeds, fruits and nuts.
